How does the number 38,603 meals served since July ‘07 grab you? That is the number of meals distributed to the homeless and destitute in the City of Atlanta by the folks at Innermission, an organization led by one of our guests on the King Kustom Cycles Podcast, Roy Whitney.

Roy spends every Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday in one of the two trucks that he has rebuilt from scratch, taking food, clothing and medical supplies to the streets. This organization is always on the lookout for anyone willing to contribute canned food, cash contributions or volunteer time to take care of those in need. They also have the good fortune of partnering with a Christian based Motorcycle Club we have had the honor of highlighting on the podcast in the past, we welcome again John McGinn from the Moo Cow Bikers.

King Kustom Cycles in conjunction with the Moo Cow Bikers are sponsoring a charity ride called Feed The Hungry on Saturday June 20, 2009, with proceeds going to help Innermission achieve their calling of providing good deeds.

To get a sense of the type of organization Innermission is, just read the blog posts that you find at http://dudesharethefood.org/blog/. It can really make you feel good inside to know that there are giving people in the world no matter what the conditions might be. Both Roy and Erik Humphries are simply incredible human beings … and of course there are many others involved with this group that weren’t named.

Laura recently had the first hand experience of riding along with Roy while he and his wife were distributed food in the Little Five Points neighborhood of Atlanta, and was able to witness the outpouring of gratitude and affection on display.

Representing the Moo Cow Bikers is John McGinn, Vice-Cow of the Moo Cow Bikers who shares with us that they annually affiliate with two charities for fundraising purposes. John also shares with us that he and his wife attended one of Roy’s annual Super Bowl parties, where Atlanta homeless can get a hot meal and watch some of the game.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Moo Cow Bikers you can check their web site at www.moocowbikers.org …. or you can attend a monthly meeting on the second Monday of every month at the Dwarf House in Fayetteville at 6:00 pm.

Here is a quick video that will give you some insights into what it all means, and explains why “Dude, share some food”.

This is a video of Laura and her new friend Cory discussing the situation that led to him helping out at Innermission;

In this episode of the King Kustom Cycles Podcast we meet Holly Henderson Chambers, a wife, mother and long time Fayette County 911 Dispatcher. After a 12-year fight with Lupus, Holly’s kidney’s are failing and she needs a transplant.

She is very gracious in talking to us about how long she has struggled with Lupus and the financial burdens of dealing with an auto-immune disease. Holly is at the stage where she is waiting on the kidney transplant process which means expensive medications, the cost of the transplant process itself, and she would also like to be able to offer compensation to the kidney donor for the time away from work while they recover from the operation.

Janaya Daily speaks to us about the ride on Saturday November 1st. After Holly’s most recent biopsy results came back, it was determined that it was time for a kidney transplant and those in the riding community and her circle of friends decided to put on a fund raising ride.

Registration for the ride starts at 9:00 am at Big Daddy Cycles in Fayetteville, departing at 11:00 am and is escorted through Fayette, Coweta and Pike Counties, ending at Hotlanta Wings back in Fayetteville. Prizes and a raffle, plus food and music for $20 per bike.

Anyone interested in offering a donation as part of the ride should please contact Peggy Glaze via email

Show Notes:

Today’s episode is another special Roadcast edition of the podcast, or as Laura would like to call it … a Moo Cast! Laura and Phil had the privilege of riding in the Chick-fil-A / Victory Junction Charity Ride from Newnan Georgia to The Rock Ranch, in Rock Georgia, sponsored by the Moo Cow Bikers.

On the Moo Cast we are joined by John McGinn, Vice-Cow of the Moo Cow Bikers and Gary Eller the head of charity ride coordination.

For a little background on the Moo Cow Bikers, John details how Dan Cathy, the Head Cow and son of Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy, gathered together a group of motorcycle enthusiasts back in the year 2000. The group hadn’t yet formalized when they attended the group’s first event in New Smyrna Beach Florida for Biketoberfest. On the ride home they determined to maintain the “cow” theme and the name Moo Cow Bikers stuck.

Today’s ride is a spinoff from Kyle Petty’s Charity Ride in which Dan Cathy became involved about four or five years ago, all of which benefit Kyle’s charitable organization the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

On Saturday, the Moo Cow RIders all ended up at The Rock Ranch in Rock Georgia. This weekend at TheRock Ranch was the hot air balloon rally and a lucky raffle winner got to ride in the Harley Davidson hot air balloon. The rest of the afternoon was filled with fun for the entire family partaking in the pony and hay rides, riding the cow train .. and waiting to see the lighting of the balloons!

If you are interested in finding out more about the Moo Cow Bikers you can check their web site at www.moocowbikers.org …. or you can attend a monthly meeting on the second Monday of every month at the Dwarf House in Fayetteville at 6:00 pm.

Show Notes:

In this third installment of The King Kustom Cycles podcast, we are introduced to Garon Watson the Lead Technician at the shop. As a rider of multiple makes and models of motorcycles he is well versed in the various aspects of parts and service for all bikes.

We are introducing a segment of the podcast called Tech Tips

Garon introduces us to Gear Drive Cams.

All twin cam motors are designed with a chain drive cam with plastic spring loaded tensioners which can wear out at 25,000 – 30,000 miles. The recommended service is to remove the cam cover to look for any degredation which could potentially damage the motorcycle.

A Gear Drive Cam is an alternative to replacing the tensioners and chain. The three biggest reasons for installing a gear drive cam are:

By replacing the tensioners with the gear drive cam you are eliminating the need for the chain drive and future replacement due to degredation in the future.

Taking the tensioners and chain out will provide less drag or negative horsepower on the motor

Upgrade to the gear drive cam will also provide more torque and horsepower for the motorcycle

This service element would be applicable to any twin cam models on the road since 1999 .. essentially any touring models on the road.

Contact the shop for assistance in choosing which cam is best, based upon each individual’s riding style.

Upcoming Events

While Laura picked up a 2008 Street Glide

And just for fun … Laura preceeded the 730 mile round trip from Chicago to St. Louis by running a half marathon in Chicago through the remnants of Hurricane Ike!

St. John’s Childrens Hospital in Springfield Illinois was the first stop on the trip .. and then it was on to St. Louis to visit the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.

This was the first year that motorcyclists joined the bicyclists who traditionally have participated in the Tour in years past. The bicyclists raised an incredible $500,000 on their ride, and for the first ever attempt at the event the twenty motorcyclists raised $50,000!
